1)Street Defense views the martial arts as a journey as well as a way of life. We believe that there is no end in a persons martial arts training. Street Defense is a huge source of information. We have had students train for well over 13 years and continue to grow and learn new knowledge. TOP

2) The amount of time it takes to get a Street Defense black belt varies from person to person. Unlike most commercial martial arts schools, Street Defense has an incredibly high criteria for it’s black belts. The process is as follows. First a student must become an apprentice instructor (Teishi) for close to six months as well as pass a written certification exam. After that a Teishi may be promoted to an assistant instructor (Kohai). A Kohai must then instruct for close to a year and pass another written certification examination before he/she can be considered to be eligible for promotion to head assistant instructor (Sempai). A Sempai must gain roughly over a years experience as well as pass a third written examination before they are eligible for a Street Defense black belt. TOP

3)Street Defense studies the combat attributes of over 6 styles. These styles include Karate, Kali, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Muay Thai kickboxing, and Ju-Jitsu. Seminars are periodically offered in which certification with different weapons is made possible. These include Throwing knives, a wide variety of Okinawan weaponry (KoBudo), Samurai sword (Kenjitsu), and fire arms. Seminars teaching First aid, Pressure points, Japanese Language, martial law, and street tactics are offered as well. TOP

4)Unlike most commercial martial arts schools, Street Defense has no belt testing fees. The price for promotion is improved character development, hard work, good technique, and dedication to the martial arts. TOP

5) Some of the students at Street Defense have had previous martial arts experience. Although Street Defense respects any previous training, Street Defense will only recognize the rank of black belt in any one style. Students of Kyu rank (under black belt) are required to begin at white belt.TOP
